Course Description:
This advanced level course is designed for the experienced laser safety officer (LSO) and has been developed to reflect the changes in the new ANSI Z136.1-2014 and IEC 60825-1-2014 Standards.
It is conducted in a special “student involvement” format consisting of both didactic and hands-on problem solving in a workshop format where specific, real-world, laser safety scenarios are evaluated. Focus will be on the significant changes to hazard classification and Section 8 of ANSI Z136.1 and relevant tables/figures, including: Correction factor CC, CP, CE, αmin, αmax, tmin as well as what is not changing with respect to MPEs and AELs, such as MPEs for UVR wavelengths, CW visible wavelengths, NIR CW lasers used in industry and CO2 lasers. Specific laser exposure situations will be evaluated in class and others by participants in multiple problem-solving sessions, followed by instructor review.
On day 2 of the course, attendees will participate in an advanced problem-solving session involving hazard classification according to the US Federal Standard and the IEC 60825-1 (2007 and 2014 editions).
