This course has been approved to meet the requirements as dictated in Texas House bill 449 and 25 Texas Administrative Code 289.302 and 301. Content is directed to fulfill requirements necessary as a medical professional along with applicants for the Laser Hair Removal Apprentice, Technician, Senior and/or Certified Professional. A lengthy discussion of the rules, bills, and regulations affecting aesthetic practice in the state of Texas is included in the course curriculum.
This comprehensive 32-hour course has been developed for the clinician responsible for the aesthetic practices as well as the Laser Safety Officer (LSO) duties in an aesthetic environment. The curriculum has been developed in accordance with the ANSI Z136.3-2011 standard, for Safe Use of Lasers in Health Care.
This course is designed to introduce the fundamental concepts of laser/light science, as applied to the technology and safety. This is required of professionals working with and responsible for, Class 3B and Class 4 medical lasers and IPL's in the cosmetic /aesthetic field. Nonbeam hazards, technical considerations, classification of lasers along with procedural, engineering, and administrative controls will also be reviewed. Discussion of the criteria for evaluation of Nominal Hazard Zones (NHZ) and the Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) along with selection of protective eyewear and safety equipment is included. The American National Standard (ANSI Z136), FDA, OSHA, IEC standards as well as state mandate, professional societies and other appropriate regulations will be used as the basis for both risk assessment and the development of relevant control measures.
To provide the necessary skills and expertise, intensive instruction of client consultation techniques, indications and contraindications, patient management and pre and post treatment care are provided. Examination of laser/light protocols for hair and tattoo removal plus pigment-vascular lesions treatments are conducted for attendees. A discussion of the latest technology for IPL / laser use for facial contouring, tightening, wrinkle reduction, and improvement of facial lesions are reviewed using pulsed and fractional devices. Furthermore, multiple modalities and outcomes are examined concerning body contouring and fat lipolysis.
Cosmetic "safe" practices, purchasing of new technology and administrative start-up of aesthetic services are examined. Through lectures and discussion, participants will obtain clinical, technical and administrative information essential to the development of a comprehensive, compliant, and effective aesthetic program.
Certification examinations for CMLSO status in conjunction with The Board of Laser Safety and certification status of the Laser Hair Removal Professional through Professional Medical Education Association, Inc.are available in coordination with Rockwell Laser Industries.

Objectives:
- Discuss the fundamental science of laser/light/ RF energy as it pertains to device biophysics and tissue effects.
- Determine hazards associated with laser/light/ RF systems and appropriate safety control measures required.
- Identify the regulatory and advisory guidelines for development of an aesthetic safety program.
- Discuss clinical applications of current and emerging laser/light/ RF technology in the aesthetic field.
- Identify key component of an aesthetic consultation with review of client assessment, informed consents and client assessment.
