RLI Unveils New Laser-Gard™ Eyewear for Pilots at Air Safety Forum
The Air Line Pilots Association, Int'l (ALPA), representing over 53,000 pilots employed by 38 air carriers in North America and Canada conducted their 57th Air Safety Forum, from August 15-18, at the Hilton Washington in Washington, DC.

RLI used the occasion to introduce our new line of Laser-Gard™ eyewear that protects pilots from flash blindness caused by laser pointers, dazzlers and aiming devices.

Laser-Gard™ eyewear's lenses come in a bronze tint for daytime sunglass use or a salmon tint for nighttime vision and provide traffic signal color recognition so personnel can conduct their work safely and effectively. The patented lenses also protect against glare and provide 99.9% ultraviolet protection.

RLI Exhibited at AURPO Conference
The Association of University Radiation Protection Officers (AURPO) celebrated its 50th Anniversary at The Annual Conference, which was hosted by Newcastle University in the City of Newcastle, UK September 6-7, 2011. RLI exhibited there with our British consulting partner Laser Support Services.

The Association was founded in 1962 with the object of promoting safety and knowledge in the use of ionising and non-ionising radiations.

Its principal aim is to increase knowledge and understanding of radiation protection through the promotion and interchange of information. The Association is consulted by a number of Government and other organisations responsible for drafting new legislation on various matters relating to all aspects of radiation protection.

RLI Upgrades e-Learning Platform
We have recently upgraded our e-learning capability with a move to a new hosting platform. A faster and more intuitive user interface makes our e-learning a more enjoyable online experience. Our new platform is still SCORM compliant. SCORM governs how online learning content and Learning Management Systems (LMSs) communicate with each other.

Accredited Testing Laboratory
Accredited to ISO/IEC/EN 17025, General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories, RLI provides laser safety testing and classification of laser, LED, UV and IR products and components to global laser/LED safety regulations.

RLI will perform the necessary testing and radiation measurements required to determine classification and prepare the required CDRH and/or IEC 60825 reports. IEC 60825 reports can be used to support the "CE Mark" for the European marketplace.

Appropriate laser output measurements will be performed under normal operation and single component fault conditions for the purpose of radiation and product classification. Testing can be performed in our Laser Laboratory in Cary, North Carolina or on-site.

Product Focus
LAZAN™ Premium Laser Hazard Analysis Software

LAZAN™ Premium performs hazard evaluation and classification according to the ANSI Z136.1 through computation or measurements, computes hazards pursuant to conditions 1, 2, and 3 from the IEC 60825-1, and calculates visual interference hazards and distances according to the ANSI Z136.6.

The software generates graphs of beam irradiance or radiant exposure for unaided or optically aided viewing and from visual interference, which are self scaling and labeled, and can be shown on screen, printed or stored to disk.

Laser parameters may be stored to disk, and printed as an extensive customized report, which may also be saved as text.

Features:

  • ANSI Z136.1 examples
  • Customizable startup mode
  • Checks for impossible input parameters
  • For pulsed lasers, compares both average power and energy/pulse to MPE
  • Calculates most hazardous distance from extended source lasers
  • Displays MPE correction factors
  • Visual interference levels
  • Laser barriers
  • OD for unaided and optically aided conditions
  • OD needed at any distance from laser
